RYSA 2010 Fall Traveling Soccer Info
It's time once again for registration for RYSA's fall traveling soccer programs. This fall RYSA is featuring a new program for our U9 & U10 players. This program replaces our traditional fall traveling league for these groups. More information on this program is available below, and in a PDF document located in the box on the right-hand side of this webpage, and titled "Fall Traveling Prep Academy." Registration for fall traveling soccer is open online until the end of June.
Fall Traveling Prep Academy (U9 & U10)

RYSA is excited to offer a NEW fall program for our U9 & U10 players. All players will meet at Watson Soccer Complex on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:15 pm. Mondays and Thursdays will be practice nights and Tuesdays will be "game" nights. For more info on this great new program, see the "Fall Traveling Prep Academy" PDF document located in the list on the right-hand side of this webpage.
Fall Traveling Soccer League (U11-U14)
Dates: Late-August - Mid-October, 2010
Cost: $100
For those already involved in competitive play, or those considering transitioning from recreation soccer to traveling soccer, RYSA offers a fall traveling season. Traveling teams play against teams from outside Rochester in an environment wehre scores and league standings are kept. During the fall season, teams play six league games against other MYSA teams - primarily from Southern Minnesota and the south metropolitan Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Practices are held twice a week, with games played on the weekends. Players will need to purchase their own RYSA traveling uniform if they don't already have one.
RYSA 2011 Summer Traveling Soccer Info
Thank you for your interest in the Rochester Youth Soccer Association’s Summer Traveling Soccer Program. Registration for the Summer 2011 season will open September 13, 2010. RYSA fees are due at the time of registration. Fees for the 2011 Summer traveling season will be $325. The $25 increase from 2010 fees will be used to cover costs for four one-hour indoor practices at the RCTC Dome, to be held in March and early-April, for each traveling team:
What do spring/summer fees cover?
• MYSA/USYSA league fees
• Referees for league games
• Park & Rec field usage fees
• Insurance
• Coaching stipends and fees (Note: Teams will NOT have to pay any additional team fees for coaching stipends and fees.)
• Coaching education
• Entry fee for the Rochester Invitational Soccer Tournament
• Administrative expenses relating to the Traveling Soccer Program
What is not covered by the summer fees?
Please note that there are additional team costs, which will vary from team to team. Team fees can range from $100 to several hundred dollars, depending on the amount of additional expenses that each team incurs from the following:
• Uniforms (Players who need a set of jerseys can order online at the time of registration. RYSA is using a new uniform starting Fall 2010. A set of numbered Umbro Forest jerseys, consisting of one navy and one white, will be needed by each traveling player and are an additional $50. Anyone wanting to try samples on for size can do so at The Soccer Advantage (according to them, the jerseys run a little big). Navy Umbro Forest shorts and navy Umbro Team socks are not included in the jersey fee and should be purchased at a sporting goods store or online. Anyone who did not order new jerseys in Fall will need to do so for Summer 2011.)
• Winter training fees
• Additional team-specific indoor training time
• Equipment (shoes, shin guards, ball, water bottle, etc.)
• Additional team apparel (warm-ups, bags and other apparel as decided by the team)
• Registration fees for tournaments other than the Rochester Invitational Soccer Tournament
• Travel costs, meals and hotels for out-of-town tournaments
Families should carefully consider all the above costs before registering with RYSA. Traveling soccer isn’t for everyone. It is more competitive than recreation soccer and requires a greater time and financial commitment on the part of the players and their families.

What is Spring/Summer Traveling Soccer?
Description: Summer Traveling League competitive teams start practice in early April, play league games from mid May through mid-July and may qualify to play in the MYSA State Championship at the end of July. Teams play league games against other MYSA teams, typically from southern MN and the south metro area.
Practice/Game Schedule: Teams typically practice twice a week (i.e. Mon/Wed, or Tue/Thurs), play league games on opposite week nights, and choose to play a few weekend tournaments throughout the season.
Team Formation: Players are placed on teams with youth of the same age and skill level. Tryouts are held in early August. Teams are formed using age, prior coaches evaluation, player commitment form, tryout score, player registration date as well as number of players registered. If a player didn't attend tryouts, they will be placed on a team using their previous coach input and playing experience. We may have to limit registration in some age groups due to availability of fields and coaches. Players will be notified of team placement by mid-December. RYSA will attempt to place all registered players on teams.
Coaches: Coaches are selected based on their soccer training and experience, and include qualified parent and non-parent coaches. U9-U12 players receive additional skill training from highly qualified trainers. Coaches must be register with MYSA and complete a notarized Informed Consent form every soccer season.
Age Group: Registration will be open for U9-U19 players. See MYSA link for more information on birthyear.
What is the RYSA Traveling Soccer commitment expectation? Traveling soccer is competitive in nature. Participation requires a major commitment from the player and the parents – much greater than Recreational soccer. This commitment includes the time necessary to attend practices, league games and tournaments. Traveling means traveling; most away games will involve travel times in excess of one hour and most tournaments will be around the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area or further. Seasonal play starts in May and runs through the League Championships in late July, so family vacation plans may be impacted. The financial commitment includes uniform fees, tournament fees, and other expenses identified by the team (please note that financial assistance is available, if needed). It is expected that players will arrive on time, with all required equipment, and be mentally and physically prepared to participate for all scheduled practices and games. The coach must be notified in a timely fashion when a player can not attend a scheduled team event due to a conflict (e.g., academic, religious, or illness). Every effort should be made to avoid conflicts and it is recommended that trips and vacations be scheduled after the first week in August. Players with additional soccer season activities (e.g., sports, jobs, clubs, lessons, or trips) that may seriously interfere with their ability to train and play with the team, should examine their ability to participate.
RYSA needs volunteers. Please consider volunteering to help Coach or assist with RYSA club activities by indicating interest on the application or emailing rysaoffice@gmail.com .
RYSA needs financial contributions. We continue to add more and improve existing soccer fields, expand our programs, and purchase additional goals and soccer equipment. We provide financial assistance when requested to provide an opportunity for all children in Rochester and the surrounding areas to play soccer.
